ADDITIONAL PERMISSION FOR APP STORE DISTRIBUTION (GNU Affero General Public License version 3, section 7) gote is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3 ("AGPL-3.0-only"); the verbatim text of that license is in the file LICENSE. The following additional permission is granted by the copyright holder and applies to gote in addition to, and not in place of, the AGPL-3.0. Why this exists --------------- Mobile application stores impose terms on the software they distribute -- limits on the number of devices and copies, restrictions to devices the user "owns or controls", and a requirement that installed binaries be signed by the store operator so that a user cannot install a modified build. Some of those terms conflict with the AGPL-3.0, which forbids imposing further restrictions (section 7) and requires that users of a User Product be able to install modified versions (section 6). Without an explicit permission, distributing this program through such a store would be inconsistent with its own license. The permission -------------- As a special exception under section 7 of the GNU Affero General Public License version 3, the copyright holder of gote grants permission to distribute this Program, and works based on it, through the Apple App Store, Apple TestFlight, Google Play, and comparable application distribution platforms, notwithstanding any terms imposed by the operators of those platforms that would otherwise conflict with sections 4, 5, 6, 7 or 12 of that License -- including restrictions on the number of devices or copies, restrictions to devices the recipient owns or controls, and any requirement that installed binaries be signed by the platform operator. Scope ----- This permission covers only the act of distributing through those platforms. Every other obligation of the AGPL-3.0 continues to apply in full: the complete corresponding source of any distributed version must still be made available under the AGPL-3.0, modifications must still be released under the AGPL-3.0, and a modified version offered to users over a network must still have its source offered to those users under section 13. As permitted by section 7 of the AGPL-3.0, anyone who conveys this Program, or a work based on it, may remove this additional permission. Doing so leaves the AGPL-3.0 in force, unmodified. Contributions ------------- Contributions to gote are accepted under the AGPL-3.0 together with this additional permission, so that the permission continues to cover the whole work as it grows.
